How often do you stop and think about the goodness in your life?
How often do you stop to thank your parents? Your body? The woman who held the door for you?
If you’re anything like me, it’s not all that often.
Towards the end of 2015, I decided that I wanted to acknowledge the positives in my life. Not just once in a while, but every day.
And so, the daily gratitude diary was born.
Since writing down one thing a day that I am grateful for, I’ve become more concious of the good things around me. It’s been a really positive exercise, and it’s something that I plan to continue doing.
1st – I am grateful for starting the year with a belly full of enthusiasm and positivity. 2016 is looking like a corker!
2nd – I am grateful for the lady who smiled at me in the coffee shop. A smile can go a long way!
3rd – I am grateful for my parents joining me for breakfast, and for all of the love they give to me.
4th – I am grateful for unexpected culinary triumphs: I discovered how to make a good carrot soup…at last!
5th – I am grateful for the lady who smiled at me as I battled along in the wind and tipping rain on my morning run.
6th – I am grateful for people sharing their knowledge. Today: someone telling me about a place in Brighton that has 20 vegan pizza options. Oh. My. Days. I am also grateful for the old man in the neighbourhood saying hello and wishing me a good day.
7th – I am grateful for the sun shining today. Especially during the high miles week. Two words: dry. feet.
8th – I am grateful for having such a fun, kind and caring friend – a dinner of laughter with Fran.
9th – I am grateful for the opportunity to have a restful afternoon. I’m also grateful that I didn’t shit my pants on the tube on the way to my run: ropey stomach and a near miss!
10th – I am grateful for having a strong, willing and cooperative body. A heavy running week well tolerated.
11th – I am grateful that I have three nutritious meals a day.
12th – I am grateful for the kindness of relative strangers: to Michael for sending an email to a colleague regarding a job. Heart of gold.
13th – I am grateful that I can get out of bed each morning. It might be a mental struggle some days, but my body is strong and healthy.
14th – I am grateful to have the opportunity to spend a week with my family.
15th – I am grateful to have a healthy body. I’ve disregarded it in the past, but I’m starting to see how lucky I am.
16th – I am grateful for recent break in the weather: the sunshine was glorious.
17th – I am grateful that I can find enjoyment in working hard: stair climbing.
18th – I am grateful that I have become a more positive person in the past year.
19th – I am grateful for the opportunities that are coming my way.
20th – I am grateful for the sun shining, and to have the time and peace to lay down in a field to breathe.
21st – I am grateful for my sister, and her ability to make me laugh so much! Bee Gees impressions…who knew! I laughed so much I needed my inhaler!
22nd – I am grateful to have a friend who inspires, supports and encourages. Mary. She’s always there for me and has a heart as big as an ocean.
23rd – I am grateful that my parents are so environmentally concious, and that they are moving towards a sustainable, plant-based life.
24th – I am grateful for a good night of sleep, at last! I am also grateful for my brother getting home from Ethiopia safely.
25th – I am grateful for the lady who held the door for me in the coffee shop.
26th – I am grateful for sharing a house with someone who is as passionate about the mountains as me, and who I can share my dreams with.
27th – I am grateful for the rare opportunities to meet people who understand my passions.
28th – I am grateful that I have friends who encourage and support me with my running. I am grateful to have Luke and his positivity in my life.
29th – I am grateful that I have finally discovered what I want in life longer term. I am excited that I have had the opportunity to explore my thoughts and to acknowledge what excites me in life.
30th – I am grateful that I have been given the opportunity to take my life and my career in a more positive direction. A more vibrant life beckons!
31st – I am grateful that I have discovered the key to starting my day on the right foot: the green smoothie! Since having a green smoothie each day for breakfast, my eating woes have quietened. Onwards and upwards for February. Allez allez!
So, who fancies joining me for a month of daily positives in February? I’d love if you posted some of your daily gratitudes over on the Facebook wall – we can all share what goodness we have in our lives, no matter how big or how small.
Let’s celebrate those positives!
